Elections & Parliamentary Watch Program
|

|
The Elections & Parliamentary Unit ("EPU") works to strengthen legislative institutions and create greater accountability in the public sector, especially with respect to elected officials. The E&P Unit consists of three projects: (i) Parliamentary Watch Project, (ii) Parliamentary Hearing Project, and (iii) Election Activities.
The Parliamentary Watch Project (“PAW”) is part of the EPU which was initiated in November 1998 with the aim of acting as an objective reporting service and legislative watchdog.
In addition to the CSD staff, PAW employed volunteers from universities to monitor all the sessions of the National Assembly and Senate. In 2006, PAW produced a comprehensive Report of its findings and widely distributed to all interested and relevant institutions and individuals.
Through a US$90,000 grant from the Japanese Embassy, EPU printed 500,000 Voters’ Guide and actively worked on commune council elections education in 2007; EPU anticipates similar funding and work for the national elections in 2008.
